WE FEEL THE NEED FOR REED
It all started with the ‘Ripple’ glasses set from Ferm Living. As soon as we saw it, we were desperate (maybe that’s a tad OTT…let’s just say ‘keen’) to get them. The tactile glass with clean lines had us hooked. From that point on, the obsession with everything reeded began.
Plain, smooth surfaces could, in the inimitable words of Joe Lycett “GET IN THE BIN”.

So there we were. Sipping from our reeded glasses. Wondering what else we could find that had the same undulating form as our newly found love.
Then a new design project came along, bringing with it the potential of moodboards filled to the rafters with reeded accents. A Georgian manor house that was ‘ripe for reeding’. Which isn’t a euphemism but, to be fair, with this new and exciting love it may as well be.
The first step was to get a new kitchen design from the ever wonderful Graham Robinson from Halcyon Interiors. The brief was ‘Dark / Moody / Striking’ with wood accents. And as luck would have it, Halcyon had just received a new reeded door design…so fate called and we were wedded to the reed for ever more.

Their Lausanne range of real wood veneers include classic woods with different surface finishes, through to vintage wood fronts.
These reeded doors were welcome in this particular design because they visually break up the black full height cabinets either side and add an interesting texture. The Sand Oak shade also complements the almost golden veining in the St Laurent Dekton worktops, pulling the whole design together and providing some light relief from the darkness.
RIVELA’S TIP: Adding different textures is one of the most important weapons in any interior designer’s arsenal and creates a more ‘thought through’ look compared to choosing a one-size-fits-all cabinet range. It’s one of the many extra details that take a scheme from good to great.
So that was the reeding in the kitchen sorted. And you’d be sorely mistaken to think the relationship ended there.
Enter Gubi. The Copenhagen based design house created the only dining table that we wanted for this open plan scheme.
Ladies & Gentlemen, we present to you the ‘Moon’ table.
Satisfyingly round with curved edges and a reeded pedestal base. The obvious choice at this point.
Be still our beating hearts.

FYI - Gubi is one of our absolute favourite design houses and could warrant a whole blog post to itself.
In fact, we’ll make it happen. It’s officially on the to-do list.
KITCHEN - DINER
Removing the wall between these two rooms created an open plan space. The kitchen and dining area ‘speak’ to each other through the use of dark wood, golden tones and reeded accents.
There are more reeded pieces in this house, trust us, but we think that’s more than enough excitement for now. If we’ve whet your appetite, we’ll reveal more pieces in a follow up post.
And, do us a favour, if you too ‘Feel The Need For Reed’ then let us know in the comments section below so we don’t feel quite so weird about our newly acquired - yet already substantial - obsession.
